I am a 26 year old woman born and raised in the modern era. This book takes me back to a kinder simpler time. I can not say it was a better time because I realized all the hardships that these people faced. I think time will prove me right that this book is in the same genre with other nastalgia titles such as the Education of Little Tree and Christy. The book was probably written for folks as young as twelve or as old as memories. I will not attempt to edit or be a true critic of this work. My best anaylis is that I enjoyed the book very much.

  VERY WORTHY READING , 01/31/2005

Ususally being a discerning reader, I bought this because I knew a family member of the author. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I started reading one afternoon shortly after I received it - and didn't put it down until I finished it. THEN I WAS SORRY THERE WASN'T MORE TO READ. I gave it to my 85 year-old Mother and she read it in one day. Then it was passed to my sister and she read it on one snowy day! (All this was done within five days.) Needless to say, we all loved the book. What a wonderful gift for the young and the old. Lessons in history and memories of a simpler, hard life where love was the glue that held families, not material possessions. I hope there is a sequel to this lovely, well-written book.

I found this book very exciting and could hardly wait to read the next chapter. It brought back many memories of my own childhood growning up in the backwoods of the mountains of North Carolina. For you that would like to know about some of the hardships that people faced during those difficult times, this book will enlighten you on such times and events.

December Roses has to be the best book I've ever read from the category of fictional-literature. The author shares her childhood memories through her father’s eyes. This gripping heart-warming story will have your heart from the moment you pick it up. Thanks Bonnie.
