IDEALS Ideals are what we think are possible, what we wish existed, and what we would like for ourselves and the other people of the world to make a reality. These are the things Musings is all about, in large part.
Ideals are, frequently, what tend to make the world a better place to be. However, ideals can also be what nations fight wars over and people kill one another over.
Like so much of life, ideals can reflect our unlimited potential for good or evil. We ourselves, essentially, determine if we and our ideals will be good or evil.
But, would anyone intentionally choose an evil ideal? Such a choice seems to be an oxymoron. Perhaps we are so close to our ideals that we cannot determine their goodness or badness. Nevertheless, our ideals are an important part of our existence. They are our guiding lights. They give our lives direction and purpose.
How does one evaluate or assess the goodness or evil of his/her ideals? By what standards do we measure ideals? How objective can we be in measuring our ideals? Maybe we should ask ourselves what our ideals would produce. But even that is not a flawless measure. For example, Hitlers ideals produced a result which horrified most of the civilized world.
To test our ideals is difficult, indeed. Nevertheless, it is something we must constantly do.
