MAKE YOUR INTENTIONS KNOWN Too many people get into these situations, especially in the film and movie business. When people are not clear about their expectations at the beginning of a business relationship, trouble can be brewing.
(ASSUME = ASS U and ME)
It is a good idea to state every assumed and un-assumed rule that you are expecting. It might cause friction in the front end of the deal, but it helps avoid creating enemies and fending off lawsuits when the money starts flowing, or when the deal falls through.
MONEY, TALENT AND FAME These three items are not the same. A person can become very rich and have neither talent nor fame. A famous person could be broke and talentless. A talented person could be an unknown pauper. Often people confuse these three areas, but each of them; money talent and fame, work separately from the other. Sure, you can use any one of these areas to get to the next, but they are not always tied together.
Being famous will not necessarily bring you talent or money.
Having a great talent will not necessarily make you rich or famous.
Being wealthy will not necessarily make you powerful or famous
BUT BEING POWERFUL WILL The one thing that affects money, talent and fame is power. Power buys talent. Power can generate cash. Power can create fame. Power comes from politics. This is one of the reasons why packaging (combining the producer, actor, writer, actress and director into a package that is then presented to a studio) has become so popular. It is the person who puts the package together, who holds the power over the feature film and television business. The packager is building a power base from the combined money, fame and talent of the package. The packager is more than the sum of the parts.
