Lucie’s Hope juxtaposes Nazi Germany with Germany fifty years later. Immediately, I was captivated by the horrific events of George Mueller’s survival and inspired by his return fifty years later to free himself of fear, shame, and even guilt. Lucie’s Hope is a remarkable book about a remarkable man.

  Lucie's Hope Novelette Review , 07/17/2004
Reviewer: Karen Townsend
The book is captivating. The perspective of a real life holocaust survivor is enticing and keeps the reader interested since it is non-fiction. It was good to have a unique perspective on the holocaust and events surrounding it. One particularly interesting event in the book was the Milkmen baby. This was a young boy raised in a camp by parents believed to be his that were not, yet no one pointed it out in fear something ill would come of it. Mr. Levy provides a neat perspective of the events that shaped his young life. The pictures were an added feature. The details that emanate dispel common beliefs about the holocaust like all children being separate based on their gender. Mr. Levy indicates he was with his sister. Mr. Levy also dispels that all people involved were horrendous and makes mention of a Nazi that gave him bread. The book is heartbreaking to know that humans are capable and did starve people, allow abuse and disease. Mr. Levy is a good reminder of what we take for granted on a daily basis and should not. I think his book should be read by all elementary students and is a good addition to any library or bookstore.

I have to honestly say, that I have never read a book that was created somewhat like a biography (parts written by Roz) and other parts written like an Auto-Bio(George). The switch in the style of the two writers, and the view of the past and present situation, kept my intrest level high. If your looking for a quick run down of what the jews went through during the war, but still want to be given good detail on what an individual person went through, then this is the book for you. A great escape to Europe in the 21st century and a look back on how things were in the 1930's to 40's. I would recommend this book to anyone who is just getting involved in jewish history or WWII or someone who just wants to learn a little about the situation.

Are you looking for a one night reading, then Lucy's Hope will be the book for you. From the minute I picked it up I was intriged. Here was George Mueller giving his life's experiences at age eight and a half through the age of sixteen, during the holocaust. In the book he explains the hardships and how some of the Germans were bad and good at the same time. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a piece of history.

I can't wait to read this book! To find out more about George Levy Mueller and his little sister Ursula I suggest reading Survivors: True Stories of Children in the Holocaust by Allan Zullo and Mara Bovson.
