Abstract:
This book is a collection of five dark and haunting tales that depict ordinary people coping with mystical, supernatural beings bent on their destruction. The characters come face to face with death and annihilation on every level imaginable, and realize that despite the overwhelming odds, with a little help, all people can escape the impending horrors that they face. In all tales, good triumphs over evil as each character beckons God to the rescue and is delivered from every terror imaginable. The stories touch on many themes, ranging from Middle Eastern terrorism to the evils of witchcraft, interlaced with everyday struggles that all people face on a day to day basis.

A book filled with nightmarish tales, and terrifyingly real. Each page is a twist into the unknown, a vast world of danger, and horror. A must read, and if you decide to read this book at night, than you are a braver man than I.

  Hope and Reassurance , 11/04/2004

I have recently read a collection of short stories that is of an unusual genre. "Tales from the Valley of SHadows" by Todd Andrew Sundell is unusual in the sense that God is its focal point and he has complete authority over evil. Each story touches on different aspect of this. One of the stories deals with a reoccurring nightmare, another focuses upon a vampire, and still another had to do with an underground society of demonic origin. Each story was fully developed with three-dimensional characters, a suspenseful and mysterious plot, but they left the reader a sense of hope and reassurance. Unlike the format of other horror novels or movies, that leave the viewer with a sense of dread since the evil is only contained and threatens to come back, these stories have the power of God removing the evil. When the power of God revealed itself, the reader began to understand that God did not break out in a sweat at all. This leaves the reader with the sense of hope and reassurance. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these stories and would like to see them converted to comic-book format for young readers. Keep up the work, Mr. Sundell and I look forward to reading more of your work.
