While visiting China, the author discovers the teachings of a misguided, unpublished, (not to mention overeating and womanizing) 19th century philosopher. Brilliant and incisive? Doubtful. Hilarious? Absolutely!

Abstract:
So So Gai (pronounced so so guy) was a 19th century gourmand, womanizer, games hustler and all-around mediocre guy who died unmarried, unpublished and nearly penniless. Repudiated in his own time and in his own land, he left behind numerous teachings that have been lovingly resurrected by the author, in an effort to spread So So’s wisdom and make the money that So So could not. Via his simple, inelegant poetry, So So Gai teaches us the best ways to consume food, control the growth of children, play to win, and achieve romance on one’s own so-so terms. Brilliant and incisive? Doubtful. Hilarious? Absolutely!

Well, I just attended a Writer's/Book festival in my hometown, (a) because I am an avid reader and lover of books, (b) I love to meet (good) writers whenever I get the can, and (c) I was looking for a gift for my brother-in-law's birthday. It was at this festival that I met the author Matt Goldberg, (his beautiful wife) and his hilarious character, SO SO Gai! I also found the perfect birthday gift! This book is for anyone who enjoys a good, witty laugh. Mr. Goldberg's ability to create a lovable, silly, and yet at the same time, wise (in his own way!) character is easily seen in the pages of this wonderful little book. I highly recommend it for anyone who has a sense of humor, or who wants to give a great gift!
