Abstract:
If Not Now…Then When? Stories and Strategies of People Over 40 Who Have Successfully Reinvented Themselves is the tale of Peter J. Fogel, one of the most successful stand-up comics in America that you’ve never heard of -- who, at over 40, decided to make a 360 degree career change and enter the world of direct mail copywriting. While on his journey Fogel interviewed other baby-boomers who over came osbstacles and then went onto to success in brand new careers. And here they are: 14 stories of people who did just that…against all odds, including Steven R. Schirripa of “The Sopranos.”

The key point made in *If Not Now--Then When? Stories & Strategies of People Over 40 Who Have Successfully Reinvented Themselves* is this: If they can do it, so can you.
From a neglected child who grew up to be foster mom of many...to a television producer who cured a mysterious disability by yelling at her feet, then used her "platform" to help many others...to a comedian who became a copywriter (that's the author, Peter J. Fogel)...this book profiles over a dozen people who, as the title says, successfully reinvented themselves after 40.
The "befores" and "afters" of these people vary widely, but the thing they share is that they all overcame daunting obstacles to reach their goals. Each chapter begins with an inspiring quote by a famous person. My favorite is this one by Gandhi: "Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning."
Author Fogel says, "It astounds me that some reinventors, years later, went back to what they were doing as children, such as returning to their first love of music or art." Speaking for myself...my first love is writing. And I'd love to be a subject of the sequel to this book. But don't wait for the sequel. Read *If Not Now--Then When?* and be inspired to get busy on your own reinvention! If they can do it, so can you.
