Abstract:
OUR BRIEF MOMENT IN EXILE is a poetry book reflecting a particular period of the author’s life. It was compiled at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado. The poems were written between the bookmark events of being kicked out of summer camp for having sex for the first time, and working in the circus, which led to a career in theatre. The major theme weaves a pattern of longing for childhood and memory, and struggling to lead a meaningful life due to experience. The subtle maturity of man, symbolically represented as the passage from Summertime (August) to Fall (September), is literally the passage of time spent traveling (freedom) to time spent settled down (responsibility).
