When divorce rears its ugly head and renders a strong man weak, will family and friendship be powerful enough to bring him back to his feet?

Abstract:
Divorce can be a frighteningly ugly affair that can turn strong men weak, beautiful women unsightly, and good circumstances bad. This is especially true when children are involved. Based upon true events from a period in the author’s life, Once Upon My Lifetime is a tale of agony, depression and despair brought on by the perils of divorce and eventually conquered by the powers of perseverance, friendship, family, and love. This is a heart-wrenching, uplifting story that grabs your attention from the very first sentence and doesn’t let go until the final punctuation mark. It’s an emotional rags to riches.

Once Upon My Lifetime is one of those books you just can't put down... I thought it started a little slow, but half-way through the second chapter I found that I was no-longer reading, but simply absorbing the text as I flipped through the pages. The author gives many kudos to the band Rush throughout. So if you're a Rush fan, you need this book. It's very well-writen with colorful descriptions and many witty metaphors. It's the best book I've picked up in quite some time.

  A Real Page Turner! , 12/21/2007

I read this book over the summer and at first I wasn't sure if what I was reading was a true story. However, I learned from the author that the happy, tragic, yet uplifting story of a midwestern guy struggling through unbelievable hardship was in fact a real story. This author overcame many unreal and insane life experiences and I was overwhelmed by his strength, courage, and determination for a better life. I could relate to many of the things that happened to the author. If you did not know it was a true story, you'd be shaking your head that some people in life can be so cruel. I hold the author in high admiration for his struggle for a happy and content life. This is defintely a must read and you will not want to put it down.

A quick but absorbing read, as the author gives you his account of his tragic fall into despair, and fierce struggle to reclaim his life. The depths to which his ex-wife will sink, will astound and horrify you, and you will cheer when Mr Jeffries emerges on the other side, triumphant and somehow, sane. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who has ever loved, and lost.

My sister's friend told me to read this book because she knew I got divorced and had a hard time with it. Reading this book made me understand that my story wasn't as bad as someone elses story. This is a good book and I'm going to lend it to a girl at work who thinks she wants to get divorced.

This one gets you where it hurts! A very well written tear-jerker. Divorce is the worst, and this book depicts how cruel it can actually be.

This is a really well-written book. Much of this story is easy for me to relate to; It sounds quite a lot like my own first marriage. Great book; but too short!

A mesmerizing tale of an honest life that gets entangled in a mysterious trail of trials and tribulations attributed by a loved one. A definite page turner that will leave you finding yourself in a captivating battle of love and hate, truth and lies, respect and contempt, defeat and triumphs. “Once Upon My Lifetime” envelopes a riveting account of what a good nature, hard working man endures, so unexpectedly, though, loyally but vigorously, conquers the challenges with admirable courage. A true gem for anyone who needs to “Spark the Soul”.

  What a Story!! , 02/25/2018

First of all, I must confess that I am a huge RUSH Fan, so I loved all of the references to the band RUSH!! This book is a very easy read, i read the entire thing in one day, plus the fact that I could not put it down!! I see that the book is listed as fiction, but it doesn't take long, when you start reading it, because of all the specifics, to know, that it is in fact a true story. The pain that Mr. Jeffries endured during that marriage speaks volumes about his character. So many times when he was knocked down, he could have just given up, filed for bankruptcy and took the easy way out, but he just strived to work harder to save his dignity and his marriage. Just when he thought that he was ahead of the game, he was thrown another "curveball". He definetly fought for much longer than most people would, for the sake of his son. This book had me laughing, cheering and crying, but mostly crying because the way he tells the story, you can almost feel the pain, that he felt... I highly recommend this book to any RUSH fan, any person who has had to struggle through a relationship, and anyone who has ever wanted to preserve their dignity in the midst of total chaos.
