Trees were bending . . . limbs swaying like a witch’s snarled and twisted hands reaching out to ensnare me. Behind the trees, Arkansas Crippled Children’s Hospital loomed. I was terrified, yet mesmerized--I shivered!

Abstract:
The Rainbow Crane begins long before I was born. It is a book of memories and stories. Established beliefs that are handed down many generations are prevalent in the South. Sometimes they are not easy to abide by. My mother found herself in such a predicament; yet she followed her heart. All my life, I have had two major obstacles to overcome. I was born illegitimate and at the age of nine months, I was stricken with poliomyelitis. This taboo birth and crippling disease presented life long hardships. Early in life, I found out that the road to success is always an uphill climb.

My Aunt Louise shared this book for me to read as my Mother is mentioned in it. I never read much except for the Bible. I read it in 4 days. Then I also remembered ME Rice was my Son's 3rd grade teacher. Many, many, many things really caught my attention as we used to live in Dardenelle, Arkansas. My Mother is passed away now and it is exciting to know she will live forever in literature. Also I did buy this book for myself, now my children and even my Step Mother wants a copy for herself. So I am sure I will be ordering more soon. Thanks Mary Evelyn, for telling me your lifes story!!!!!! God Bless!!! Sheila D Parham (Daughter of Effie Dean Weaver)
