This is a memoir of a family’s journey from a home in suburbia to a trailer on a coral reef in the Pacific; it portrays the adjustments made and enjoyment derived from the people, culture and offerings of this small island community. Swaying palms, sparkling blue reef, smiling faces, and bicycle transportation were apart of their daily lives. Descriptions of frequent trips to Oahu and the outer islands of Hawaii introduced them to another culture, but it was the ultimate journey in 1968 when they circumnavigated the globe, visiting nineteen countries in two month that truly expanded their view of the world.

Abstract:
This is memoir of a middle-class black woman and the changes and adjustments she made in her life as a result of her husband's job. She shares her experiences of moving from the suburbs in New Jersey to a trailer in the South Pacific. The adjustments are interesting, comical and insightful. She tells of her island experiences, her involvement with another culture and her subsequent travels around the world with her family. She reveals her thoughts on being on a small island, away from the impact of the racial struggle, particularly, the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and its effect on their lives.
