Abstract:
Ghetto Wi$he$ and Penitentiary Dream$ captures the gang bang world on the elite level, from the Compton streets where stars are born, bosses are made, and the game is played. For life, death, liberty, lust, and love of the almighty dollar. Bay Bay and Diamond meet in Corcoran State Penitentiary, where they form a brotherly bond that trandscends mere homie love . Both above average ghetto superstars in their own right, they don't shatter the glass ceiling until Sha Sha steps in the picture, the project princess from Watts' infamous Nickerson Gardens. With the family, connections, money, and intelligence, she's cold, calculating, beautiful, and dangerous.

While this book is not really my genre of choice, I did find the book interesting. In my opinion the value of this particular novel is couched on the idea of love. Since men from the "ghetto" are usually portrayed as heartless, I found it somewhat surprising the main characters did love significant others to the best of their capacity. Although, Diamond and Bay Bay were not faithful, they did consciously intend to provide stability for their wives. Their intention was to love in the best way they knew how considering individual life experiences, and this aspect of the novel was interesting and at some points refreshing.
