Trials of faith test a woman’s heart toward Jesus as she struggles to grasp God’s living reality and learns of the Holy Spirit.

Abstract:
Born of the Generation X era that is known for its extremes, Phoenix describes the extreme struggles of a Christian-born young woman. Through triumphs and failures, tragedies and miracles, this woman struggles to find the faith she was raised with. Not only find it, but keep it. Faith then becomes the axis upon which a struggle to discern good from evil revolves. Faith becomes the lifeline for a lower middle-income family drowning in the swells created by economic crisis. Phoenix: the true story of how God transformed Alice Kawar, an ordinary woman, into a testament of the power of faith.

Faith, Courage, and Inner Peace , 10/25/2009
Reviewer: Bishara Kawar
Alice Kawar’s book Phoenix is a true story about a person’s strong determination to succeed. Born of a generation called “generation X” her story is filled with courage, perseverance, curiosity, adventure, and a strong faith in God. Once I started to read the first few pages, I couldn’t stop. It was just like I was there with her in every step of her life. Her genuine desire to share with the public her strong faith in Jesus culminates when she wrote about the car accident. No matter how thorny the road was for her, she always found a moment to stop, reflect, and put all her trust in Jesus that everything is going to be OK. Alice loves adventure and excelled in girls camp fire, church programs, and writing. When she told of the incident about the boat by the river and the invitation by her husband’s so called friend to join him for a ride in the river while she was pregnant makes me shiver at the thought of what could have happened to her. This man never liked Alice and seriously injured her husband during an argument. There is a lesson for every reader of this book to learn from her story: Faith can really move mountains just as it says in the Bible. Oh how the heavenly providence overshadow the life the believer! The author’s life story is a testament to that.

very interesting what a person can live through and still keep their head up and have faith, very interesting story, what a tale to tell, keep the faith great book, hope there is another one to follow. Life's lessons are hard ones but if you keep the faith and trudge forth anything can be done. obviously she did the footwork, and kept marching on, no matter the battle and is a greater person because of it. Thank you Alice for letting us into your life and sharing with us your story.

This is an exceptional writer. She has faced a lot in her life and has learned cope, embrace the trial, keep a sense of humor, and rely on her faith in God to pull her through. You must read this book. It will encourage you in your own walk with the Lord.

I have read so many books people have written about themselves. and some are very self-absorbed, some are rambling, some are boring as all get out, I can say this book surprised me so much. from the time I picked it up to the time I put it down. it kept me going, I did not stop once to think "oh boy is this person long-winded. or is this person high on herself." I highly recommend this book. You will get shocked and happy and sad, and ticked-off with the author. Thank you Julie Bennett

  Journey to Faith , 02/20/2010
Reviewer: Martha Williams
Phoenix is a journey to faith proven, through two cultures, and multiple episodes of testing. Life always hands us tough times, but sometimes, we get more than seems fair for one individual, or family. These are the times that we find our faith in Jesus Christ is the pillar that brings us through. The times that, related through experiences we've had, can inspire others. Phoenix does just that.

  Encouraging and reminding , 03/03/2011

My heart broke as I finished this book for two reasons. It broke to know that someone could go through all that the author went through at such a young age, and it broke to know how God gives us incredible strength to bear whatever life throws at us. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability. This book reminds me that God's grace is sufficient...and that Matthew 10:29-31 is true even today.
