You’re Almost There is a remarkable 17-year journey of running a marathon in all 50 states. Through the eyes of Paul Mellor, you’ll experience the battlefields of Georgia, the wheat fields of Kansas, and the lava fields of Hawaii. From the mansions of Newport to the monuments of Richmond, Mr. Mellor quickly learned that the marathon is not only about the miles, but about the people and the places you see along the way.   A Wonderful, Compelling Read , 11/09/2010
Reviewer: April Donovan
Mellor makes a solid novel debut with You’re Almost There, by using no canned formula for success. His meaningful voice guides the reader through a metamorphosis by experiencing the start of his journey as a boy on the road with his family, to a man with a love of the open road and the desire to conquer it through running. Colorful characters and breathtaking descriptions compliment the work without overshadowing Mellor’s big heart and compassionate disposition. Mellor’s first person narrative takes us on his journeys where we’ll laugh with him, cry with him and feel his pain as he experiences our glorious nation by foot. The story at times switches abruptly from current to the past, but Mellor manages to bring the reader along with him without any confusion. The dialogue between Mellor and the people he meets and the sights and sounds he encounters is touching and guaranteed to linger in your head and your heart long after you have finished the book.

Enjoying reading this book! , 12/03/2010

I am about 2/3 of the way through the book right now, and I felt compelled to come online and give it a review. I bought it at the Philadelphia Marathon. Mr. Mellor was nice enough to autograph it for my sons, who were along with me. Each chapter focuses on a different marathon. The chapters are short but long enough to include a few interesting tidbits about each race, as well as give an inside glimpse into Mr. Mellor's experience running it. I haven't even finished the book, yet I am already planning to visit some of these places with the family. If you are looking for an easy read that can be picked up and put down without missing much (each chapter is its own "story"), this is the book. You'll be inspired to not only run, but also to travel and see more of the country.
