Gregg Gonzales owns a ranch on Grass Mountain, 20 miles north of the village of Pecos in the Santa Fe National Forest near the headwaters of the Pecos River in the Pecos Wilderness. His place is next to his paternal grandfather Geronimo Gonzales' original homestead of 1913 and about six miles north of his maternal great grandfather Cristino Ribera's homestead of 1877. Both of these men are main actors in this book.
