At their ancestral homeland in 1804 the Yankton Sioux, a noble, enduring nation, welcomes Lewis and Clark. On the explorers’ Eighth Landing, Captain Lewis forges a unique personal link with the tribe. Now this comprehensive history follows the Sioux, from beginnings into mid-20th century, doggedly erecting a school for 450 at Marty, South Dakota. Fourteen tribes come, a virtual United Nations under one roof. In stark personal accounts, 8TH LANDING casts reservation families and helpers in a heartrending double struggle—for school and survival.
