A delightful mix of spooky stories with surprise endings, stage plays, humor, and poetry is as likely to make you tremble with laughter as with fright. This is a whimsical and remarkable book.

Abstract:
Suspenseful plots are original and clever, with surprise endings that are scrupulously fair and characters that are authentic and touching. The humor in plays, poetry, and prose is sophisticated and subtle, sometimes outrageous, always witty and concise. The writing respects the intelligence of the reader, who might nonetheless be astonished to realize this rich, varied book is the work of a single author. In this book, you will find that calculus and a dictionary from 1604 are hilarious and a housekeeper or an infant can be terrifying.

  A fun-filled respite in Mr. Them's humorous reality , 01/15/2011
Reviewer: Larry Enright
The Man in the Basement is not a single story, poem or play, nor is it a simple wordplay, whimsy or satire. Albert Them has brought together in this book a wonderful collection of short pieces for the reader to enjoy time and again. Start anywhere you like. End a few pages later. Pick up at a point where the mood strikes you. This is the kind of book where you could thumb through to any part and enjoy a fun-filled respite in Mr. Them’s humorous reality. He is a master of wordsmithery, the dramatic plot twist, and just plain funny stuff. I enjoyed this book immensely and I hope you will, too. Larry Enright
