Abstract:
Evolution Evolving presents ideas about evolution for the general reader as they developed from Darwin until today. The book focuses on five advances: (1) Darwin’s original contributions, (2) the merger of genetics with natural selection, (3) the rise of sociobiology, (4) the ongoing incorporation of developmental biology, and (5) our increasing knowledge of evolution through time. Darwin’s greatest insight was that natural selection organizes random mutations to account for the evolution of species. The book’s central thesis is that a century and a half of factual discoveries and conceptual transformations not only support Darwin’s original work, but enhance it.
