Once upon a time, way up in the cold North Pole, there lived an elf named Elmer. Elmer was too little to work in the workshop.
Elmer always tried to help out, but all he heard was Youre too small!
Once upon a time while Elmer was at Snowflake Pond, he discovered Santa Clause and his sleigh stuck in the snow. When Elmer found him, Santa was sick and there was no one to deliver the gifts. Who would save Christmas? Of course, it was Elmer!
Elmer was now older and was ready to start making toys in the workshop. Before elves are allowed to do so, they must complete Elf Initiation. Elf Initiation is when an elf must put all of the toys together correctly. Elmer was so excited that he ran right out and started working.
While Elmer worked, he hammered, tap, tap, tap, polished, rub, rub, rub and painted the toys carefully. What Elmer didnt realize was that something was terribly wrong. The toys that he had built were all mixed up! There were wheels on the sailboats and bunny ears on dogs. He painted all of the letter blocks backwards and put bare feet on the bears.
When he finished, he hurried to show the toys to the other elves.
Elmer stood before them proudly as he showed, what he thought to be, his best work.
Elmer suddenly began to notice that the other elves were not smiling.
What did you do to these toys? Asked one elf.
I put them together just like you said. Responded Elmer.
But they are put together all wrong!. Insisted another Elf, Didnt you follow the directions? They asked.
Elmer thought for a minute. Directions?
Oh no! He had forgotten all about the directions.
You have failed Elf Initiation! They all shouted.
Elmer was so upset. How would he ever be able to get into the workshop? 2
