My 1000 word or less excerpt of Every Rose Has a Thorn.... My book of poetry is entitled Every Rose Has a Thorn... . I chose this title because after taking inventory of my own personal life I came to the same one conclusion that it is with great pangs that myself and Im sure others too, have tried to be more than just human. For example, have you ever pushed yourself physically too much and too hard that you ended up suffering from fatigue? Well, I have so in truth I chose to write this book to emphasize what is really important about living or being human rather than the superficial things about us that we too often strive to nurse and protect.
We are all potential writers. However, some of us elect or choose writing to heal, romance, educate, color, and etc. the world we live in. I have chosen to use the talent of writing that I was born with to inspire others and to embolden the beauty of creative expression that flows in myself but of course in everything that moves and breathes. For example, I write about the raw things such as Nature, Our conscience, love, deception, the Children-who are the future, things that stand alone both in their distinction in relation with our lives, and in their performance. I believe that in words I portray the encounters my life has experienced with these beings e.g. deception, love, and etc. and both the negative and positive way they have impacted my life and the lives of others. I testify of Love and Deception both of which we all have done the tango with or even romanced in both unique but common ways. Weve even wrestled with Love and weve surely held hands with deception whether intentionally or unintentionally. I envision my book as a testimonial of learning how to live both spiritually and naturally. Also, learning that we are evolving into a success story, which I believe I capitulate in the poem, I wrote entitled The Rose. In the poem The Rose I express that we are ever growing from the stage of innocence: our early youth to the stage of adolescence and adulthood encountering many disappointments or the experiences of pain-which I describe as the thorns (every rose has a thorn) that pierce our souls. However, I concur to disclose that the thorns of the rose symbolize the pain we sustain in our lives, is the remedy to aid us in evolving into being decent (such like the rose that must bud first before it can blossom into a rose). I use the rose and its many features to describe our soul, the essence of our being, and the end product of us evolving into a decent citizen. I chose the poem to be on the back cover as well as featured within the book to serve as a reminder to its readers that we all start off rough and rugged but with the proper aid, help, and supports we will blossom into a decent citizen.
This book of poetry reflects my modest, sensitive, soulful side the inner self. In my book you will notice that the largest section of poetry is the section I entitled Self-Reflections. I believe that the cause for this is that I am mostly a reflective writer I largely write about personal experiences but I also write about the things I gleaned from observing the experiences of others. For example, the poem I wrote The Sunday evening stroll was inspired by my parents. As a child I recalled episodes on Sunday evenings and other evenings too when my parents went for walks. To me this simple gesture or ritual was good medicine for them-it made them better. In terms of my modest, and sensitive side you will behold that in my poetry as I take great strides to express how Nature is beauty and the natural things are sincere which is noted in the poems I wrote entitled The Dawn, and Nakedness. I believe in being natural you are exposing yourself to the world, revealing the essence of your being-your soul; Also, the wounds you have, the true you and the imperfections that you possess. For me writing this book helped me to accept the me the Francine Elizabeth natal-who I am. I found that when writing each poem I was able to reflect my thoughts on paper but not just my psyche my inspirations-joy, hope, sorrow, but mostly optimism. Writing for me is vulnerability. In lieu of writing this book I revealed my soul to the public knowing that this may result in further criticism as well as acceptance from others. My aim is not to use this book as an instrument to injure, kill, or wound the spirit and soul of anyone. Also, my aim is not to write a book that will please everybody. My hope is that through reading my book others may see that the highs and the lows one experiences in life are the ingredients of your own personal success story.
