Bureaucracy has been getting a bad rap for years. People often associate the word as a synonym for slow working, uncaring, needlessly complicated, unresponsive and, for those working in one, deadening and repressive. The good news is that it is all of that. and more! Bureaucracy is, in and of itself, a neutral word that has grown to take on negative connotations. Could it be that there is another view of bureaucracies? One which is positive and more balanced? One that recognizes the tremendous strength of this form of organization yet allows both users and employees of bureaucracies to harness its power to work for them? Could it be that bureaucracy is not an artificial form of organization but instead a natural occurring force of nature that can be measured, observed, experimented on and harnessed to help perform deeds rather than to impede them? This book breaks bold, new ground in organizational behavior, workplace psychology, behavioral economics, particle physics, practical sense and shameless self-promotion. By uncovering the secret, positive force of bureaucracy, it will allow you to harness its incredible force for your own personal advancement and well being. This book will allow you to Embrace Bureaucracy. As the earth cooled, tiny bacteria and microorganisms began to swim in the antediluvian, primal ooze. Over time, more complex organisms in the plant and animal kingdoms began to populate the earth. Finally, stock options and mission statements were born. All the while, bureaucracy was there, slinking in the background slowly evolving, never in the open but rather as a hidden force. Over time we have accepted the view (offered by people smarter than we) that bureaucracy was an invention of man; and beyond that, it had only one side; and it was dark, very dark. These are the same pundits, however, who pro-offered bogus theories as to how things are or why things work. These men of learning told us that the world was flat, the sun rotated around the earth and that hard work and high principles would allow anyone to succeed. Poppycock! Bureaucracy, I propose, is not an invention of man, but instead a natural occurring force of nature. It has been recently found to exist at the sub-atomic level with quarks and leptons. Perhaps like you, I was told in my high school physics class that the atom was the building block of nature containing its nucleus of protons and neutrons with little ping-pong balls called electrons rotating around the nucleus. It wasnt until years later that physicists realized that electrons were not actually ping-pong balls but instead a cloud of electrons. It was then that I realized the fallacy of believing people purportedly smarter than I. Bureaucracy, I maintain, is an element of nature swirling around and in us much like those clouds of electrons that surround each atom of matter both living and dead. Where there are atoms, so thereto are bureaucratic clouds. Rather than electrons, these bureaucratic clouds have been named dentrons and have been observed, not only with high powered electron microscopes, but in some organizations are as easy to see with the naked eye as Monstro the Whale. These dentrons exist in pairs of positive and negative charges thus making the sum of their charges theoretically neutral. As evolution progressed, however, the positive charges atrophied because of disuse allowing the sinister, negative charges to grow in influence until today they remain almost unchallenged in their power. Bureaucracy then is an element of nature that inhabits all living and dead matter. Indeed, we as humans are similarly made up of bureaucratic charges. I realize the metaphysical impact of these statements. It is not something that exists outside of us but rather is a part of us like our free will, and, like our free will, we may choose to develop the positive or negative side. Those in power have largely chosen to develop their negative side because, like negative political campaigning, it often gets quick results and keeps others off balance and thereby ineffective. Its time for a change. We invite you to visit our webpage at www.embracingbureaucracy.com
