The evening, Hazel was sitting next to Daemon in his front porch swing, listening to him read and sinking farther and farther into his embrace. She was tired and was still sorting through everything that had happened that day. The book finally took her from her troubles, and she found herself in a epic battle. As she dragged her tired body from the battle, she saw someone waiting for her... the man shed thought shed never see again. Thankfully, this story had a happy ending. The two of them married deep in a forest, surrounded by green, lush plants, flowers and light filtering down to them. When Daemon closed the book, Hazel was drifting off to sleep. She had closed her eyes to picture the wedding, and her tired mind had started to shut down. Daemon looked at her, felt her leaned against him, and then looked up at the stars. He was glad hed chosen a house somewhere where he could see the beautiful handiwork of the Lord.
He stayed where he was for a long time, feeling very comfortable. It was warm under the blanket they were sharing, but the cool night wind kept him from feeling too warm.
He may be a benevolent warrior for the Lord that faced his enemies with kindness, but even he felt tired sometimes. He wished he could have a partner for all of his adventures. Someone to come with him on his journey in life. Someone to laugh and cry with him when life wasnt what he thought it would be. He wanted someone he could come home to after a long day, someone with a smile, someone who had waited all day to see him. Someone he could snuggle with, like this. Someone who would keep him warm, someone he could keep warm in return. Someone he could watch the years going by with.
Having someone this close to him, leaning on him, felt good, and it reminded him of just how much he longed for that. He pulled her a little closer, tucking her head right under his chin. She didnt wake up. For a few seconds, he forgot where and when he was. He thought he was in his future, holding his wife close, looking out at the stars and reminiscing on the day. He tightened his hold on her, but then remembered where he was. He shifted his weight, moving away from her some. She woke up.
Im sorry did I fall asleep? she asked, stifling a yawn.
Yeah, but just for a second, he told her quickly. She got up and walked inside. Ill carry Ariel to the car for you. Shes probably sound asleep.
Okay.
Daemon found Ariel asleep on the couch, and picked her up. He brought her out to the car, and put her in the backseat. Daemon carefully buckled her in, set her little unicorn toy in her lap, and patted her head. She was such a good little girl.
He took them home, carried Ariel inside for Hazel, and said goodnight. Like always, he took off very quickly. Hazel went to the door to watch him run to his car. She loves watching him move.
She went back inside to sit and think about all that had happened that day. Maybe she would be able to figure out where to go from here.
She thought of her mother and father, who were the last two people she really needed to tell about Trace Landon being Ariels father... but she couldnt tell them. She was still too angry at her mother for everything.
Hazel went to bed thinking about Daemon, Trace, Vanessa and the tired-lady. She couldnt believe it, that for once, as she drifted off to sleep, she was thinking of someone else besides herself.
