They sat down drinking beer waiting for the late film to start but first they had to endure the late news.
'....we end our news bulletin on the happy news from Sri Lanka where Tamil Rebels holding twelve government officials and two American aid workers have been captured in a shoot out. Latest reports say ten rebels have been killed and all the hostages released unharmed. Now for the weather....'
'I wonder how much money they asked for. James asked wondering how they went about getting money from the government.
'Does it matter James?' Debbie hated the talk about violence.
'It's one way of making money fast, Robert said wondering how much they asked for. 'But messy. A bank robbery is quicker but I suppose there is a big risk of getting caught.
'Pack it in you two. Haven't you got anything else better to talk about? pouring herself another glass of wine.
'Where on earth did you get that?' Debbie was stunned into silence not knowing he had bought one.
'Do you like it?' Robert asked smiling and stroking it like it was a pet dog.
She leaned over to take a closer look not liking guns at all. 'What do you want a gun for? You can get it out of my house for starters, sitting back in her chair.
'Stop nagging Debbie!' James told her now he could get the chance to try it out.
'You knew he had it, Jesus you are both mad, knowing the penalties for being caught with a gun were tough especially when you have just got out of prison.
'Yes....and we were going to target shooting but didn't get the chance.
'So are you in then?' Robert gazed at James who now had plenty of time to think about what they were talking about on their vacation and at the pub.
'In what?' Debbie did not liking what she was hearing.
'Just away of getting some money and fast, he replied grinning at her.
'Is it legal?' Debbie asked turning the television off and looking at James and not aware of what their plans were. 'My plan is good and no one gets hurt, Robert told her putting the gun away.
'And you'll end up back inside if its illegal, looking at James who didn't look bothered.
'It's a fool proof plan. A quick and safe way of making millions. Robert looked rather smug sitting back down.
'Just how do you plan on getting your hands on a couple of million? The only way is to do something illegal.
'Just a simple kidnapping, Robert replied if there ever was a simple kidnapping having read in the paper people trying and failing.
'And who do you plan to kidnap with a lot of money? The Presidents daughter?'
'He hasn't got a daughter, Robert told her laughing expecting her to know that.
'He doesn't bloody have any children anyway! Getting annoyed with the conversation being side tracked.
'Who cares Debs? You've always got to be precise don't you?
With the film starting she knew normality would be restored and they would forget all about there stupid plan. Debbie decided to read the evening paper since she had been rushed off her feet and hadn't had time to read it.
'I don't know why you bother reading them, there's nothing worth reading, Robert told her never buying one unless there was anything worthwhile in.
On the front cover Robert noticed a picture of Mark Anderson mentioning he was getting millions for his sequel.
'What's that about? leaning across to try and read it but with only the side light on next to Debbie he couldn't make it out.
Oh I have heard of him. she quickly recognizing him when she held the paper up.
'I think he's attractive, like a love sick teenager pining over her hero. 'Jealous are you?' James slammed the bottle down and gave her a rude stare.
'No!' He replied rather aggressively.
'That Mark Anderson can come and take me away, any time he likes. She laughed looking over the paper to see him giving her the dead eye.
'What's he got that I haven't?'
'Money, you know the thing us women like to spend, giggling to herself.
'How much is he worth?' Robert asked knowing she was winding James up and he was falling for it.
'It doesn't say but he has a mansion in Beverly Hills.
'You mean he's a fucking rich snob, Robert hated snobs especially rich ones.
'God you two are the same. shouting at the pair of them. All she was doing was having fun and they were falling for it.
'All these actors can't even act and god knows how they make their money because I wouldn't pay them in peanuts.
Debbie knew that Robert hated anybody who made millions acting including sport personalities. By now they getting merry and Debbie knew it was only the drink talking.
James wasn't interested in the western having noticed he had watched it many times in prison.
'Well you know what to do then don't you? starting with hiccups.
'What?'
'Kidnap the bastard and see how he likes it. laughing and trying to stop the hiccups.
'I guess you are an expert on kidnapping then? Debbie said hitting him wondering exactly what he had learnt in prison.
'My idea so I think I should choose who to kidnap, Robert yelled like it was a game.
'I say we...'
'Shut up, Debbie told him realizing he was getting as bad as Robert.
Robert took a deep breath trying to think with a straight head. 'All we have to do is decide where to hide him, which he knew would need careful consideration because they would have the cops and FBI looking for them.
'You've been watching too many films. I'm off to bed.
