Marshall Brad Stillwell riding through a winter storm is trying to reach his sisters ranch in another territory. Her ranch is being harassed by another rancher, name of Sessler. Her husbands father has been killed. Supplies are no longer available at stores unless a cash-paid voucher is approved by the ruthless rancher.
Later, at a water hole, Brad befriends Stew Perkins, a young cowpuncher seeking a job. Tells Brad hes just been robbed. They journey to town. Stew recognizes his attackers, demands return of his personal possessions. They refuse and one draws a pistol. Stew kills him.
Brad asks Stew to go with him to sisters ranch.
When entering town they visit a hotel for baths. Stew meets blonde daughter of owner and is smitten with her looks and charm. Hes never had reason to like a girl, but Sally is definitely different.
Kemp, a rancher of small ranch has decided to move back east. His wife has died and he sells the ranch to Stew and Sally for a low price.
Stew starts to worry. After Kemp leaves his ranch somebody has to be at the ranch to protect the few cattle as well as watching things not nailed down arent stolen. Sally suggests they live in the two bedroom ranch house, each using separate bedrooms. Since they arent married Stew knows neighbors arent going to believe that situation couldnt last before babies are born.
Sally tells Stew that since she is a twin she only wants twin babies. He knows rabbits have many babies, and wonders how may Sally could bear? Maybe when all twins are born they should be branded like cattle, but given names so Sally and he could tell who they are. He has to talk to Brad. Hes a family man and should know the answer.
Later, while stopping at hotel to see Sally, she tells him they should get married.
When Brad and the sheriff are riding to see Sessler the sheriff is shot. Hes taken to hotel to see Doctor Thomas. The sheriff asks Brad to be deputy until he is able to ride again.
Brad is seeking a red-head wearing two guns. He believes he may have killed the two men at his sisters ranch.
