Catching SantaSneak Peek
"Dan! Chris!
Not seeing them on the main floor, she dove down the steps and into the daylight basement and found them tied to the coffee table.
Dan! Chris! Oh, my God!
She tried to undo the duct tape but it wouldnt budge.
Dan said, Use my knife. In my back pocket.
She fumbled for the knife and cut them loose.
"What happened? What's going on?"
"We have to save Santa," Chris said.
"What?"
"We have to save Santa!
"Chris, honey, Santa isn't real," she said gently. "He's just a myth, a story."
Chris gestured towards the reindeer now standing by the door.
"Mom," he said, "Meet Rudolph. Rudolph, this is my Mom."
Rudolph bobbed his head, his red nose blinking now even more brightly in the night.
Debbie almost fainted and grabbed a chair to steady herself.
Chris continued, and Santa's sleigh and the other reindeer are in the backyard."
Santas sleigh? she whispered.
Santas real, Dan said. And George Dickey kidnapped him.
Debbie glanced through the shattered window at the shiny red sleigh and the tiny reindeer in her backyard. She glanced back at Rudolph.
He pulled his lips back in a toothy, reindeer smile.
She squeezed her eyes shut to search for understanding.
Santa is real, she whispered. George Dickey kidnapped Santa. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is in my family room.
She looked at her kids.
They nodded their heads vigorously. Rudolph snorted agreement.
"And we have to save him," Chris said.
