Coco has this thing about me lying on the bed in my clothes. She thinks it is disgusting. I think she is a bit neurotic. I love her dearly, and my life wouldnt be the same without her in it, but she is a bit neurotic nonetheless. I understand not lying on the bed when I am dirty and sweaty, but she doesnt want me on this bed in anything that has been worn out of the house. She calls them all street clothes, and says they dont belong anywhere near Duponi Silk or Damask. These rules are for her house and my house. She says since she sleeps in both of the beds, the same rules apply at both houses. Even though she is in another state, I am taking my clothes off before I lie across this bed.
She wont go to bed if there are dishes in the sink. I consider myself a neat guy, but a glass in the sink overnight is no big deal to me. Coco isnt having it. It can be one oclock in the morning and she can be dead tired, but she wont go to bed with dishes in that damn sink. We spend about five nights a week together, but even when we are apart, I dont go to bed with dishes in the sink. I know she would have a fit if she came over here first thing in the morning and saw that I had left dishes in the sink overnight. What does that say about me? I guess that is what love does to a brother. I have to be honest though, even though I think she is crazy as hell sometimes, I know that woman would walk through fire for me.
That is what I want for my little brother Hunter. I want a woman to make him as happy as Coco makes me. Tomorrow night he is bringing his new girlfriend to dinner at Mas. Hunter doesnt have a good track record with women though. He is a good brother, but what goes around comes around. He has done a lot of women dirty in his lifetime, and now that he is ready to settle down, it seems every woman he meets aint worth a damn. The last serious girlfriend, Tasha, stole all his furniture. She did bust him cheating though, so I guess that was her revenge. The sister he was big into before her, Tiffany, didnt want to work. She was a poet I think. She moved in with Hunter like two weeks into the relationship. Moms hated her!
Hunter has always been able to charm the panties off of any woman. He went to Morehouse, so he has been in Atlanta since 94. Me and Ma moved here in 97, about a year after Pops died. When Ma said she couldnt stand to stay in Philly without her soul mate, we packed up and moved down here with Hunter. He had already been living here so he knew the town, and more importantly he knew the women much better than I did. Atlanta women were a lot different from the girls we grew up around up north. Hunter was a good-looking brother with the gift of gab, and he was Pre-Law. Coco always says Hunter reminds her of that dude that played Damon on Soulfood. Lucky for me she likes her men a little more Chocolatey. The fact that there are a lot of women out there that prefer the caramel brothers has served Hunter well over the years. Women love him.
He has dogged a few women in his day, but he has been good to a lot of them too. When he and Tiffany were together, he paid all their expenses, took her on trips, and financed millions of solo poetry retreats for her. She didnt cook, wouldnt clean, and from what Hunter says, was real stingy with the sex too.
In the grand scheme of things, Tasha was okay, but Ma said that relationship was doomed from the start. She says Tasha was too bossy and mean. It was real obvious that Tasha was jealous of Hunters relationship with me and Ma. I mean neither of us are Mommas Boys, but we do believe in honoring her. Every Mothers Day we take her to a fancy brunch. We try to go someplace different every year. Normally it is just the three of us, but Tasha insisted on coming. The whole time we were there, she acted like she had a bad headache so every five minutes she was leaning on Hunter and acting all sickly. We couldnt even enjoy brunch. Ma was pissed. She started calling Tasha the selfish little strumpet after that. She told Hunter not to bring that selfish little strumpet to her house again, but he didnt listen.
He brought her over for dinner about two weeks later. I think it was the last time me and Jasmine went out together before we broke up. It was a weird gathering. Jasmine didnt want to be there. She said she knew my mother didnt like her, so she didnt understand why I insisted on dragging her to family gatherings. I lied. I told her Ma liked her.
Hunter brought Tasha. From the time she got there, Tasha complained about everything. She said the house was stuffy. Then she said she was cold. Her cell phone kept ringing, and she kept answering it at the table. She didnt offer to help clean up after dinner, and she kept making inappropriate sexual comments to Hunter. All of that probably could have been forgiven, but then she did the ultimate no-no. She got on her cell phone and told somebody that dinner was okay and that the chicken was a little dry. Hunter couldnt get her out of there fast enough after that. Me and Jasmine laughed about that one all the way home.
