Winston said, “Now we only have one left to worry about. He is going to be as slippery as a snake. Be on your toes.”
Hawk and Winston separated again; it was Ring around the Rosie until Winston met up with Erick. They were so close they didn’t have time to raise rifle or gun. They started a knife fight on the spot.
Erick had been known for his knife fights in Nam. Everyone wondered if his fights had been fair or did he have help from someone else.
They were going round and round each other looking for an opening. Erick got the first cut on Winston’s upper arm.
Winston quickly countered his move and gave Erick a deep slash across his chest. They moved in a circle once again trying the find the right moment to catch the other one at a disadvantage.
Erick caught Winston off guard and stabbed him in the shoulder hard enough that the knife went completely through. Erick jerked the knife out of Winston’s shoulder.
Winston let out a light moan, which Hawk’s ears picked up. Hawk managed to get close enough to see Erick take off without either one of them hearing him.
