KATHERINE
He took me to my door and kissed me goodbye. A light kiss on the cheek was all I wanted it to be but that peck became a short kiss and then a long passionate one that became a battle of tongues. Coming up for air he whispered into my ear, sexily pleading for my phone number. I hesitated for a while. I’d have much preferred to call him for now and later on decide if I wanted to give him my number but he looked so pathetic that I decided to give in.
“Come on Katherine, don’t let me have to beg.”
He had this lost puppy-dog look that was so funny. I fished around in my briefcase and extracted a card. He took it and after examining it declared that he didn’t know that I was a corporate lawyer.
“What did you think I do?”
“I didn’t give it much thought.”
“You didn’t do too badly yourself. You’re an investment banker no less.”
“Yeah, worked my butt off to get there too.”
“I know what you mean, been there, done that.”
I reached over to give him a final peck on the cheek and before I knew it we were on my couch, our tongues down each other’s throats. Jackets flew off, landing helter-skelter on the floor. Shoes were discarded and tangled up in blazers; briefcases spilled over, papers landed in disarray all over the floor while two bodies gyrated on the couch, screaming for release. Coming up for air I tried to gain control of the situation. Sex on the first date is definitely not on my agenda. I picked up his jacket, helped him find his shoes, handed him his briefcase and pushed him out the door.
“So that’s how it’s gonna be huh? Why are you throwing a brother out like that?”
He tried to steal one last kiss while I closed the door behind him and took a deep breath. I watched him from the peephole while he straightened his tie and stepped into the elevator. Leaning on the door I attempted to compose myself. Damn, it’s been along time since I’ve felt like this way about anyone. I almost broke my cardinal rule and gave in to my feelings.
Slow down Katherine, slow down.
BRANDON
I’ve never felt this way before in my life. Since the divorce all I’ve been having are one night stands. Women with empty heads have been going through my life like a subway token through a turnstile. Meeting an intelligent mature woman that can carry an intelligent conversation has always been one of my dreams and I don’t intend to let this one get away. This woman is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time.
It was time to make my nightly call to my son and daughter. I try to catch them before they fall asleep just to say goodnight, let them know that Daddy loves them although he lives apart from them now. I take them two weekends a month and I try to drop by several times a week, that is if my ex-wife Alexis is in a good mood and will let them come down to spend a few minutes with me in the car.
