Darn it, what now?” Cristy said aloud. Her car had suddenly lost power and was slowly stopping. She barely had enough strength to maneuver it to the shoulder. She’d been visiting her folks at the Diamond D and stayed later than she’d planned. Taking out her cell phone she discovered it too was dead. “This is what I get for forgetting to charge it,” she said aloud again, as if there were someone listening. I need to get a charger to keep in the car, she thought.
Getting out of the car she was contemplating what to do next when a single headlight came into view. Wondering what to do next, she got back in her car, but couldn’t roll the window the rest of the way up because the battery was dead. She was torn between happy to see another vehicle and frightened of who it could be.
A motor cycle slowed and came to a halt in front of her car. Great she thought, now I’ll probably get mugged by a biker. He got off his bike, removed his helmet then started towards her car.
Wow, she thought, he’s big! “Car problems?” he asked pleasantly.
“Obviously, surely you don’t think I’m parking here for my health do you?” she blurted, then seeing him winch she said, “I’m sorry, yes it just stopped. I didn’t mean to be sarcastic, I just hadn’t figured out what to do yet.”
“No cell either I suspect,” he drawled. Man he was some looker she thought. Stop that, she chided herself he could be waiting to rob me or worse, rape me.
Seeing her expressions change he stepped back a bit, “do you want a ride into town?” he asked genuinely.
“What on that?” she pointed towards his Harley.
“Well considering it’s what I have available, yes,” he smirked.
“I’m not getting on that! Do you have a cell phone I can borrow?”
“I have a cell phone, but unfortunately not on me,” he responded amused at her fear of bikes.
“Well considering it’s all I can offer, I guess I’ll be leaving, good luck,” he said and turned.
“Wait,” she yelled getting out of her car. She was obviously torn. No other vehicle had passed them since he’d stopped. He could be her last hope.
