HONING YOUR TALENT
Talent is more than a gift, it is an inborn ability that needs to be mashed every once in a while and then rebuilt to become better. There will always come a time in this business where you will ask yourself, am I as talented as that guy or girl? What makes them better than me? How can I separate myself from them so that my talent stands out the best? This business will bring these questions out of you. You will always have to prove to yourself and others that you are a talented actor no matter how many awards you have, or even groupies. (For the beginner and expert, these people are the ones who say, “DON’T FORGET ME WHEN YOU BECOME FAMOUS!” when all you did was a school play or commercial that got them all excited, when really what they’re saying to you is, “IF YOU GET RICH AND FAMOUS PLEASE MAKE ME RICH AND FAMOUS TOO!” but you just do all the hard work…right!) In this business, that’s something many people who know nothing about the craft say.
For you, honing your talent is your best defense, and becoming a better actor or actress must always your goal. So what is fame? I am sure that you know many famous people who are talentless, but rich and famous. If you’re reading my book to learn something, then you are talented but not a famous actor or actress (So you’re basically a victim of your circumstance, so how do we change that?). Talent is something that makes your fame worthwhile meaning that if you’re a famous actor or actress then your fans will always love you because every time you perform your talent will always transpire onto the screen and people will notice it! If you’re a famous actor who lacks talent, then your famous because of your circumstance, meaning you knew some body who knew somebody, and it always pays to know somebody.
You are probably sitting back reading and wondering why you’re a victim of your circumstance and how can it be changed? Your talent can only take you but so far before you need to make money using it. Put this in your mind: A director is casting for a big movie and you go in for the role, you displayed your best effort and the director tells you that you have flawless talent. But, the directors nephew arrives at the audition to audition for your role that you know you got. The Nephew lacks talent and does acting just for giggles. The nephew will get the role over you every time! Why? Because the nephew knows somebody. The Director! So that makes you a victim of your circumstance. How can that be fixed? Be polite and courteous to everyone you meet whether in the business or not because someone you know will always know someone who can get you your shot or even big break. And always take and distribute contact numbers because you never know who you will need. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for what you want or need, trust me when I say that opening your mouth will get you further than you expected! (A CLOSED MOUTH WILL NEVER GET FED! ...Words to remember)

After learning that you don’t need talent in this business, (Good to sustain a life long career though!) It is the indeed the business that you need to learn! For some people it’s a complicated business where at times you don’t know where to turn.
