Excerpt
Deana’s eyes popped open.
Something – or was it Someone had awakened her. She listened to the quiet for a moment, but the feeling that she needed to get up persisted.
She flung back the covers and quietly opened the bedroom door a crack. Odd sounds came from the office. It sounded like… but it couldn’t be.
She stuck her head farther out the door. The office door was ajar. A light shone from underneath the hallway bathroom door. She figured it must be Max, since he wasn’t in their bed. She moved quickly to the office and pushed the door open all the way. Her mouth dropped open.
On the computer screen – couples, doing everything imaginable…
“Deana, what’re you doing here?”
Deana spun around. Max stood in the doorway. She watched as a shadow of irritation crossed his face. “Why are you watching this garbage?” she asked.
“It’s no big deal, lighten up.”
“No big deal?” Deana’s voice rose to near hysteria. She punched computer keys, trying to make the images go away.
“Stop that! You’ll mess up the computer.”
Feeling physically ill, she moved past Max and ran to their bedroom. She thought of Sandy’s prayer, and realized that it had been answered.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, now she knew.
