Priceless Treasures
Some of us loved childhood. Some of us hated it. But whether it was wonderful or horrible, your childhood still holds priceless treasures for you, just waiting to be discovered. The great news is, you don’t have to go very far to get them.
Let’s look at some of the treasures we’re born with. We carry these riches inside us every day; everywhere we go.
Love
Love is the most powerful force there is. It is the highest expression of our minds and hearts, and we’re all born with it. Plenty of it.
We have love inside us. Every one of us. Every day.
From our affection for cute, little kittens and puppies to mighty acts of valor, love is why we’re here. Each of us is born to receive love from the world around us, to feel it deep within our souls, and to give it away again.
So why don’t we always feel the love surrounding us and inside us? Because we weren’t shown how to love ourselves. But that’s about to change. :-)
Love Yourself
These two little words need to be the cornerstone of our lives—Love Yourself.
Loving ourselves needs to be:
• Our primary motivation
• A moment-by-moment activity
• A daily commitment
• Our lifetime goal
For too long, we’ve been taught to be bashful about loving ourselves. As we focus on loving ourselves, we may feel foolish, we may feel selfish.
We may even feel it’s wrong to lavish such attention on ourselves.
These fears will evaporate when we see the results of finally taking responsibility for loving ourselves.
As we progress on this journey, we’ll see why it’s so vital for us to love ourselves first.
To help us understand how to love ourselves, let’s ponder some self-loving thoughts and feelings. Take your time.
Thoughts of People who Love Themselves
• I’m so grateful for my life today; for everything and everyone in it.
• I’m so grateful for everything I’ve been through; both good and bad.
• I deserve the best that life has to offer.
• I’m so grateful for the love I’ve received.
• I will give myself the relationships I want.
• I’m open to receive love from anyone.
• I’m open to give love to anyone as directed by the Universe.
• I’m so grateful for all the good things I’ve received in my life.
• I will give myself the standard of living and possessions that I want.
• I don’t know everything.
• I’m so grateful for all the people who’ve taught me and helped me.
• I will learn whatever I need to succeed in happiness, love and prosperity.
• I’m so grateful for the loving guidance I receive from the Universe.
• I’m open to guidance from the Universe. It can come from anywhere; at any time.
• I want to be honest about my motives, thoughts, feelings and actions.
• I’ll do whatever it takes to get myself the help I need.
• I’m open to receive help from anyone.
• I’m open to give help to anyone as directed by the Universe.
Exercise 1: Loving Yourself
1. Go back over the list of “Thoughts of People who Love Themselves.”
2. Say each statement over and over in your head, such as, “I am so grateful for my life today…,” and so on. When possible, say them out loud.
3. Pretend that you feel what you’re saying. Put as much emphasis and heart in them as you can.
4. Practice this exercise several times a day.
Performing little exercises like this can strengthen healthy attitudes, weaken unhealthy ones and produce big changes in our lives.
Truth
How beautiful Truth is! Something deep in our core knows truth and loves it. We recognize it when we see it, we’re always looking for it and we can’t get enough of it.
The Truth we’re talking about isn’t just abstract information. We’re talking about personal honesty; to become aware of truth about ourselves and others.
When we learn and accept the truth about ourselves, it sets us free. It transforms our lives.
We’ll talk more about truth later. :-)
Beauty
We deserve to be desired. Our spirits, minds and bodies are thoroughly infused with attractiveness and desirability.
Beauty permeates us so the world can admire and appreciate the wonderful qualities within us.
Our job is to enjoy our beauty; and to admire the beauty, wonder and excellence in other people and our Universe.
Dignity
Each one of us is priceless in value.
We have an inherent dignity and worth that cannot be taken away.
We each deserve to be heard and understood.
Every one of us deserves to be respected, cherished and loved—just because we exist.
We never need to justify who we are.
We don’t need to convince anyone that we deserve the best that life has to offer; except maybe ourselves. :-)
We owe nothing to anyone, except to recognize and honor the dignity inside each of us.
