It was like a fairy tale that really happened...
There was a secret place - A magical haven where butterflies danced -
A special area that could be found a short distance into the woods, behind older homes on picturesque lots.
There was a shallow meandering stream rippling over the rocks, and trees that seemed to reach the sky.
In the summer, Daisies, Queen-Anne's Lace and Black Eyed Susan's grew wild. Moss covered the rocks at the stream's edge.
Birds sang in the trees, and occasionally a woodpecker could be heard pecking for bugs, or an owl hooting to another owl.
Often, early in the morning, deer footprints could be seen in the soft earth or in the newly fallen snow.
Many children lived in this small town, but only two girls, aged nine, shared the knowledge of this unexpected place in the woods behind their homes.
