A roving black cat guides readers of DomestiCATed: Paths Once Crossed through the nefarious underbelly of domestic human existence as told through three noir-styled, short stories. Illustrating that ordinary domestication often contains a dark side, the three short stories in this volume keep the readers engrossed with suspense, action and horror. The first story “The Man in the Mirror” portrays an adulterous woman trapped in an unhappy, violent marriage who discovers a malicious way to keep alive the memory of a dead lover. In “The Solitary Woman” a young man and his feline companion are on route to visit his grandmother, who fell victim to a stroke and spends her days silently playing solitaire. A seemingly ordinary day manifests into the horrific. The final story, “The Black Cat” is a modern day retelling of the Edgar Allan Poe classic. The cat finds herself with keepers who have very different feelings towards her. While each story can stand alone as a strong, intriguing tale, the compilation of all three results in a suspenseful volume that leaves readers questioning the ordinary.
