What Is A Christian? What is a Christian? If you ask someone “Are you a Christian?” They may say, “I think so—I go to church every Sunday, and I think I am a good person.” Is someone who goes to church every Sunday a Christian? Is a “good” person a Christian? Is someone whose parents are Christians a Christian? Is it possible to be born a Christian? What is a Christian? There is much confusion over the answer to that question. So, what IS a Christian? Jesus gives us the answer. Jesus said his true followers were those who have been born again by the Spirit of God. In John 3:3, Jesus said: I tell you the truth, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless he is born again. What does being “born again”: mean? Born again means to be born from above or born by the Spirit. Every person is born by the flesh, but not all will be born of the Spirit! Acts 3:6 states: Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. All who have received Jesus as their Savior are born from above or born of the Spirit. Have you heard someone say, “I am a born-again Christian?” All saved persons have been born of the Spirit. In John 3:7 Jesus said, you should not be surprised at my saying, you must be born again. The phrase “born-again” in Scripture means to be born from above—a Spiritual rebirth. Franklin Graham said, “a Christian is a man, woman, or child who has experienced a Spiritual new birth through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. That new birth is a gift of God, through Jesus Christ, given by the grace he freely offers to all.”
