Martha’s Journal I also focus on color coordination. If the right color combinations aren’t used it can distract the viewer from a great pattern or perfect stitches. Just because I have a closet full of scraps doesn’t make it imperative for me to use all of them. I had a forty-year accumulation of embroidery thread. Rather than sort them I pitched them and purchased a bag of nice, new skeins of thread. Now I was ready for any color demand. Well, so much for being prepared. After I had been sewing for over an hour I realized there had been no sound from my two-year-old granddaughter. She had discovered my new purchase and her little fingers went to work. Each paper identification band had been deftly removed and put into a separate pile from the thread. Did I scold her? When I looked into those beautiful, guileless blue eyes that danced with joy at her accomplishment, I could only agree with the Master who said, “Of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
Jerry’s Viewpoint God is stylish. He is a God of color; after all, He made the rainbow. What fabulous, rich colors He included in the design of the Tabernacle. “Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, . . . .” (Exodus 26:1, NIV). The imagery shouldn’t be lost on us. Full of symbolic meaning, the accouterment of this transportable Tent portrayed God’s marvelous Plan of Redemption. Are these the colors of grace? Do they suggest the fruit of Spirit? “But the harvest-fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, fidelity, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22, Centenary Translation). Since our bodies are declared to be God’s temple, or tabernacle (1 Corinthians 3:16, KJV), should we not adorn our hearts with these “curtains of finely twisted linen...and yarn”? We have a whole sack full of exquisite thread available to us from God’s storehouse of Grace, from His glorious stash. Even if we take off the labels, as our granddaughter did, there remains the ravishing array of colors. Are we taking advantage of what His Spirit provides? Are we plundering what God has purchased for us? Are we adding color and zest to our lives as a quilter at the frame?
Personal PinPoint: I purpose to be in concert with the God of the rainbow and let him paint His colors of grace in me.
