FONT – AUTOMATIC RED CORRECTIONS – Some people like to see corrections made to a text, in red. Click Review tab at top > Tracking box > Track Changes > Track Changes again > that puts all your new text changes into red underlined font. Click "Track Changes" again, to stop this red tracking, from that point on.
Now, if you want (as one normally would) that text to remain as part of your revised text, in black now, you cannot change it into black by blocking it and ordering black font! I tried all kinds of logical steps to get rid of the red, but the corrected text kept showing up again and again, in red. Finally figured out what you have to do to get rid of the red for good:
1. Under the Review tab, go to the Changes box, NOT the Tracking box. 2. Click "Accept" dropdown arrow 3. Click "Accept All Changes in Document"
That should do it. You have your changes, but the redness and underlining of those changes are gone for good and won't keep re-appearing. Unbelievable! Typical Microsoft! A normal person wants to get rid of the red once he or she is finished editing a text. Instead of making that function clearly and logically available, Microsoft makes it a struggle to figure out. Who would think you have to move over to the next box, instead of staying in the Tracking box!? Microsoft always gives you all kinds of needless options, but the main thing one normally needs to do – getting rid of the red in this case – that, that is hidden somewhere like the Holy Grail!
I think, for the normal person, this red editing feature is way too much trouble to bother dealing with. Though, in fairness to Microsoft, if you're an editor or teacher, and once you get familiar with it, the program can be quite useful.
