“I’m not sure we hit it off but I think we might be heading in that direction,” I said. “Anita what do you do in your spare time? Do you spend it with your family?” Wendy inquired. “I don’t have any family. I was married and lived in Detroit. But I left him and came back here to live with my grandmother - until she passed away two years ago.” I stopped. “Wendy, it’s a sad story and I’d rather not talk about it now. I told you I needed to cheer myself up that’s why we are going shopping, remember?” “Anita, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to meddle in your business. I just wondered what or how you spent your time away from work,” Wendy said. We are going to cheer you up if we have to buy out two stores, okay? “I didn’t think you were meddling Wendy. I will tell you all about it someday, but not today,” I replied.
Greg heard that I was leaving and he asked me to have dinner with him, he wanted to talk to me. I thought I owed him that much and I consented. We agreed to meet at King Cole’s restaurant. When I arrived he was there waiting on me looking more handsome than any boss should. I ignored the shiver of warmth that slid inside me. I could see the strength supported by wit, determination, and ambition. Every cell in my body went on red alert. He stood when I came to the table he hugged and kissed me. He pulled out a chair for me and he thanked me for coming. The waitress came and we ordered. “Anita, I have wanted to call you before now, I just don’t understand why you are moving back with him after all this time, and I thought we had something special between us. Please tell me why you left and are now going back.” I told him that I thought we had something special also that’s why I went to see him. I wanted to make sure it was okay to pursue our relationship. I started from the beginning with where I met Tony and about the marriage and why I left. I told him every detail. “Okay, then why are you going to try it over? What happened to make you think about going back? I thought you were free, other wise I wouldn’t have gotten involved with you. Anita I don’t take to women easily. I’m sure you know that.” “Greg, let me answer your last question, first. We never sat down and discussed our past. We talked about other things, but never our past. If we had, you would have known. I knew that I had been married but I didn’t know if I was still married. Greg, I had a feeling that you were going to ask me to marry you and I wasn’t sure I could, because I didn’t know if Tony had gotten a divorce or not, so I went there to find out.
