COFFEE TABLE WORLDS
In a world where lands oft collide, where papery lions and apes reside, we journey to places far and wide. Our steps and tracks only dust can hide.
From Africa's torrid desert sands, through California's sweet winery lands, to fabled stories of Disney's hands, this glass-topped world meets our demands.
Mind-launched from this plane, our lives take flight, to many places out of sight, enthralling us with new delight, while we rest our feet or have a bite.
One problem that I need to utter, this world is fast the cause of clutter, that oft makes any Felix mutter, while he moves in a frenzied flutter.
Whether the story of Cain and Abel, or present truth or old time fable, the wordy pictures your minds enable, are in those books on the coffee table.
LITTLE BIRD
Little bird pecking at my window pane, what do you see from your perch upon my sill?
Is it those pesky little knick-knack animals, peacefully standing on the other side of the glassy surface, which sparks your continued attention?
Or is it that unknown companion, mirroring your every move that ruffles your feathers enough to cause your persistent efforts?
Are you hungry, hoping to find food or are you lonely and just hoping to meet a new friend?
Little bird, tapping, tapping, tapping at my window pane, I do hope you find your answer.
NOT FORGOTTEN
The elderly man sat in the activity room staring rather blankly out a partially frosted window into the darkness of night. Not much could be seen outside except for some haloed street lamps and a nearly deserted parking lot.
His face, showing the ravages of age, with wrinkles more pronounced than usual, appeared forlorn. Others in the room joyfully celebrated, while he just sat motionless, like a store window mannequin. When pressed to join the festivities, a gruff "NO" was his only response, as he rose and left the room.
Upon entering his residence, he again sat by a window with only one small light to brighten his existence. Time passed, yet still he sat hoping against hope. His thoughts ran wild.
"After all I've done for them! After all these years! Why, why, why," he groaned. Suddenly, his countenance changed. A quizzical look and tilt of his head evidenced the attention shift to outside his residence door. Hearing the voices more clearly, tears filled his weary eyes.
"Is this Grandpa's room, Mommy?" "Let's hurry in."
He wiped away the tears as quickly as his cold heart melted. Joy brought warmth to his expression and a brightness to his face.
"I wasn't forgotten."
BLESSED RAP
I am so blessed, so truly blessed! You may not tell it by the way I'm dressed or how I sometimes seem so stressed, but, trust me, my life really is the best.
God has oft my body healed and now that Christ is within revealed by His Holy Spirit I am sealed from the jaws of death, He is my shield.
When I got to my knees to give God my life, He went instantly to work with His spiritual knife. He cut out sin, from which my soul was rife, and He lessened all my heartaches and strife.
Whether I am asleep or awake I tell you this, make no mistake, He my soul will quickly take. I trust it completely, for heaven's sake.
He touches my life in so many ways. It’s the little things that always amaze and set the love in my heart ablaze while I laud His goodness all my days.
He gives this promise freely to you, He’ll break sin’s bondage in your life, too. There are only two things you should do. Confess your sins with a heart that’s true.
Then ask Him to within reside to have His joy and peace applied. He’ll be your constant Light and Guide and grace and mercy He’ll provide.
I enjoy eternal peace and rest, so my life, you see, really is the best and it doesn’t matter how I’m dressed with God inside I am so blessed!
