INTRODUCING NORMAN O'KAY
Norman is a nine-year old American born, half-Chinese computer whiz. Norman wants to play professional hockey. This blond haired, slanted eye, stocky built, but not too tall, little boy is dreaming of his chance to become a pro hockey player. Norman lives with his mother and father in a town called Pittsburgh. His mother is from the land called China (map). His father is from the United States (map) a downtown businessman who builds big buildings in the downtown area. Norman's mother plants and grows her own garden, selling the fresh vegetables for a profit.
Norman looks Chinese like his mother, but he has blond hair and blue eyes like his father. It's summer time; school is out. Straight-A student Norman deserves his fun. Norman wants to sharpen up his skating skills. He needs mom or dad to take him skating. Mom and dad are tired from putting in some serious long working hours. So they lay back in bed resting, trying to be ready for that next day, not spending the time needed to satisfy Norman's ambitions, young desires, abilities, and opportunities. Relaxing in their bed, all Norman seems to hear from his parents is, Norman O'Kay, not today! Not today, Norman, not today! Still ringing in Norman's mind as he walks away from their bedroom with dreams and ideas, and all kind of thoughts, tired of hearing Norman not today! He adventures outside to see his friends the next door neighbors. Packing their car for an outdoor picnic are Billy, Joey, and both their mother and father. Norman runs over, says "Hi!", and then asks, "Where ya going?"
The father says to Norman, "we are headed out for a picnic, some ice cream and some good old fun, would you like to come?" Inside Norman's mind he thinks, of course I want to go, the mother tells Norman to go in his house and get his parents. Norman's parents, haven't met any neighbors yet, they are resting. Norman comes running back into the bedroom excited about the offer to go with the neighbors, but inside his mind comes the thought, the sound coming from his parents' mouths, Norman O'Kay not today! So disheartened Norman runs back outside to tell his friends, "Not today, Not today." The mother and father look at each other and both decide it will be all right if they took Norman with them, because they don't plan on being gone long, and they would see Norman's parents when they got back. "Come on hop in boys", the father helps Norman with the seat belt, then he straps in little Joey and Billy, who is the same age as Norman. Joey is only seven.
