Distractions & Diversions When you are alone, away from the noise and the distractions, you begin to see and hear who you are. - Unlock Your Greatness
In my first book “Kill Your Giants” I stated that a giant is anything that impedes you from your destiny. The word impede is to hinder, halt or even terminate. In addition, a giant can easily be a distraction or a detour. Have you ever been driving and all of a sudden you encounter roadblocks that take you off your original path and now it has taken you much longer to get to your destination because of one simple detour. Some detours are short and you are back on track in no time, while others, you actually get lost because there are so many diversions. It is essential that you determine what distractions are good and evil, compared to those that are inevitable and natural. There are four things that you know about distractions and diversions. 1. A diversion takes you away from the truth 2. A distraction alters your focus 3. Keeps you from paying attention 4. They can alter your purpose A diversion takes you away from the truth Many people use tactics in the form of lies to get divert you from their issue. Have you ever been in an argument where you know you had a strong based on principal but then the person brings up a point that brings high emotions into the picture and takes the entire argument off course? They may even utilize tears to get their point across and obviously when they do that, tears or volume wins over principle. I call that the art of being dazzled. When you’re dazzled, you’re confused and when that happens you do either nothing or bow to the diversion. A distraction alters your focus One of the worst things to take you away from destiny is a distraction. They come in all forms: relationship, sex, entertainment, emergencies, children etc… if you are not careful, your whole can be one big distraction. This way you never or barely get anything of worth done. I’ve heard so many people including me state that if they weren’t in certain relationships they would have been so much further in life. The great thing is that one notices, but that information means nothing without change. This means you must identify the missing link to your destiny and fill it. Keeps you away from paying attention The word greatness means uncommon. God has place around us some great people but if you are hurt, angry, selfish, then you don’t see the forest from the tress. People that are in pain often only see their pain as if that is the only thing that matters. Freedom comes from first knowing you are bound. Once you know this, you seek out help. I have gotten breakthroughs and serious enlightenment from conversations with people because I recognize their greatness. This also creates a win-win situation because they get to do something they love and I benefit from them helping me. They can alter your purpose At the end of the movie “A Bronx Tale” the commentator said “the saddest thing in life is wasted talent and the decisions that we make stay with us forever.” Life is going by rapidly and this is not a time to continue with diversions that do not bring empowerment to life. A series of distractions can be fatal to one’s destiny which reminds me of a story. A man died and went to heaven, he said to St Peter “I’ve always been fascinated by military, can you tell me who is the greatest general of all time? Peter replied” sure that’s easy as he pointed to a man on earth and said that man right there”. The man looked perplexed and said” I don’t understand, I actually know him, I used to work with him for a few years, he’s just a common laborer. St Peter replied “I know, and had he become a general, he would have been the greatest of all time. “ If you don’t heed to the small things, then you never get the great things.
Not all distractions and diversions are common; some are for your betterment. God uses diversions to get our attention onto the greater instead of the mediocre. So I am a singer-songwriter which means I‘m used to getting melodies accompany with words. Sometimes I get just the melody, but there was this one day where I got a phrase. This never happens. The phrase was “Kill Your Giants”. Anytime you hear or feel something that is very unusual, pay attention and follow it. I had no idea what it was, I heard a voice say, write it down, so I did. The importance of me following that instruction is vital because, if I don’t heed to the small things, then I will never get the great things. That one phrase led to the completion of my book, and others, becoming a speaker, TV Host and producer. If you honor the good distractions and challenge your fears, greatness is inevitable.
