Reflection 5 PERSEVERANCE Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. THINK ABOUT PERSEVERANCE Oh, the race is not always easy! We have such a long road to travel and our human bodies tire so quickly. Trials and tribulations often burden our soul. Nevertheless, we are not alone on our journey. Praise God! His Word, the Bible, serves as our roadmap. In all times, good and bad, we search the scriptures for guidance. The life of Jesus is an example of perseverance. He faced the ultimate betrayal and suffered on the cross before being raised to glory. He endured an earthly life for all of us so we can have an eternity in heaven. When we grow weary, let us turn our gaze to Jesus’ life. If he can face the cross for us, we can persevere in faith. Our reward is in heaven, not on earth. Maintain focus on the glory that awaits us. Dwell not on the burdens of this world. Run the journey with perseverance for His honor. What are the obstacles that hinder your walk with the Lord? When do you find yourself surrounded by clinging sin and temptation? How do you persevere? Have you stumbled on your path of perseverance for the Lord? What happened? Reflecting on that situation, what decisions could you have made to remain strong in faith?
