LET SPIRIT BE YOUR COUNCEL
Susan agreed to cooperate and participate. When I tuned into Susan and began to do a reading, I looked deep into the issues of her weight and I psychically saw a past life. It was a past life when Susan was a monk in a monastery.

The dust stirred as the monk walked down the cobblestone road from the monastery to the village. His long brown robe, made of coarse hand-woven cloth, reached almost to the tops of his sandals. It was fastened at the waist with a knotted cord, and the hood hung on his back, leaving his balding head bare to the morning sunlight. A thrush moved quickly from low-hanging branch to branch by the side of the road, revealing itself only briefly to the passing holy man. The bird seemed to be encouraging the monk to hasten along his way. A villager in need was waiting.
The monk shifted the freshly made loaf of bread from one arm to the other. The villager was ill, and the bread would help. But the villager needed more than food, so the monk had been called. The monk was a healer and was loved by all. During the course of his life he had healed many people. He thought ahead to this particular mission with the usual excitement and anticipation, but also some fear. He had a gift, he knew that, and he was grateful to the unknown powers that had given it to him. He had gone out from the monastery into the village on countless occasions to help people. Sometimes his efforts seemed to be in vain, but on many occasions the sick recovered from their illnesses, the sad at heart were lightened and relieved, the barren produced healthy children. Did he work miracles? He didn't like to think about that. That was the province of someone who had come long before him, he wasn't in that class. The monk liked to think in simpler terms. He was just a healer who had a gift to help people with their problems.
He came to the cottage where the villager lived and knocked at the door. He was greeted by the villager's wife, who showed open joy and relief that he had finally arrived. The villager was in bed, weak and feverish. The monk gave the bread to the woman and sat with the villager for a while. They talked in low voices for a long time. When the sun was high in the sky, the woman served some of the fresh bread with soup to the pair, the monk helped feed the man. Shadows were growing long by the time the monk said good-bye. The man was sitting up and appeared to be feeling better.
For the monk, the long walk back up the hill to the monastery seemed more difficult every time he made it. This day was no exception. He didn't step as carefully on the uneven stones, and stumbled a couple of times. The air was warm and dry and the leaves on the trees were stirred gently by the wind, but he didn't feel the wind or see the birds or hear their song. His legs felt heavy, and his energy was depleted. He put his hand to his forehead and wiped away a sheen of perspiration. Was it just the exertion of walking up the hill, or had he caught something from the villager? Maybe he should stay up at the monastery for a while and not venture down into the village. But he was a healer and it was his mission to heal and comfort the sick.

The problem was that the overly tired monk had absorbed some of the sick energy from everyone he healed. As time passed, he felt weighted down with all the negative energy and soon became sick himself. His life was shortened because he didn't know how to protect himself from other people's negative energy. At a subconscious level the monk adopted the beliefs that other people's illness weighed him down and so began the fear that he was physically not safe when he did healing work.

At first Susan did not understand how this was effecting her weight now. I had to explain to her that often there are hidden issues affecting different areas of our lives of which we are unaware. These issues are very deep inside and we need to uncover them to move forward. Experiences that happened in the past, whether positive or negative affect us in the present.
The monk did not know how to protect himself from the sickness he came in contact with when he was doing his healing work. It didn't matter whether he was doing emotional or physical healing. He was so connected to his healing that he absorbed the negative energy of the person he was with, so they could heal. He didn't understand that by accepting the sick energy of the people he was healing, he could become sick himself. All he needed to do to be protected was to ground himself before each encounter.
