Guarding our heart in the Christian community is the most important thing you can ever do. The word of God teaches in Proverbs 4:23- Guard your heart more than anything else because the source of life flows from it. Wisdom will always be the key to living a fulfilled Christian walk with our pastors, leaders, as well as our brothers and sisters in Christ. When we have an understanding concerning guarding the heart we will be able to help others guard their heart as well. Because I have learned over the many years in the Christian community that saints who don’t guard their heart abort the purpose of God. From the beginning it has been the purpose of Almighty God, for us to have a relationship with him and with others. In Genesis 1:26 God said let us make man in our Image after our likeness: (KJV). He did not do it alone, the son and the Holy Spirit of God is also present in the making of man. In the second, third and fourth chapters of Genesis we see different kind of relationships. In chapter two God created Adam and Eve the first husband and wife team. Their purpose was to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth as God commanded them. In the third chapter Eve encountered evil. She is our example. When Satan comes to tempt you, don’t entertain the devil. Eve had already been told not to eat of the tree in the midst of the Garden. But she chose to engage in the conversation with Satan and do what he told her to do, and disobeyed her husband who had given her the commandment of God. Fourth Chapter-Cain murders Abel-First relationship of siblings. Evil entered in the heart of Cain in the form of jealousy. This is not what God had in mind when he created relationships and family. God created us in his image so that whenever we encounter Satan we are always supposed to have authority over him. God has given us power over evil through the power of the Holy Spirit. The desires of our heart must be to do the will of God more than anything else. If Eve would have never disobeyed what her husband had told her which was the commandment of God and if Cain would have guarded his heart against the spirit of jealousy, then he would have never murdered his brother Abel. That is why we must guard our heart more than anything because it protects the purpose of God for our lives.
