Managed Care and the Mafia. Both have much in common. So notes one character in the first of many intriguing chapters in this “Dr. Lassiter” medical-mystery. This is one of the more sinister forays in the acclaimed series for, though fiction, it’s based on solid fact: the infamous Tri-Con of New Jersey – a health care provider run by a Mafia family. Joining Dr. Lassiter in the novel is Lem Harper, a giant of a man with little sense of humor and an unshakable sense of justice. Together, they explore the dangerous dealings of one hospital – one run by a friend of Dr. Lassiter.
