Abstract:
This memoir is about family life on the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base during the Cuban Missile Crisis that began October 22, 1962. It is a personal account, describing one woman’s attempt to make sense of a world that does not always make sense. How much did she know about the evolving drama that threatened her life and the lives of her children, ages 2 and 3? How did it feel to be evacuated from her home and thrust into the role of a displaced person? All she wanted was to go home, and she didn’t even know where that was.
