Abstract:
Black Warriors—Unique Units and Individuals is the third book in the “Black Warriors” series that is dedicated to preserving the history of African Americans in the military. Through the words of veterans, historical photographs and actual accounts of historic events, the reader enters into a time of war, a time of bigotry, and a time of patriotism.

African Americans have participated in every war or conflict our country has been involved. From the first twenty black slaves who landed on the shore of the James River in 1619 to the current war on terrorism, African American warriors have been in the fray. Their battles were not always fought against a foreign aggressor. The closed minded ideologies of the military hierarchy was a battlefront unto itself. Quotas were set on enlistments, total segregation was strongly enforced, opportunities for advancement were discouraged, and the aggressive attitude of disallowing black’s to participate in combat, are but a few of the battles African Americans in the military had to fight.

In the “Black Warriors” series the reader, of course, will read of these inequities, but also will discover how they were conquered.
