Abstract:
Young love, innocence lost, the government’s betrayal. Norma Beales’ first husband, handsome Navy airman Taz “Bud” Rudd, was killed along with the crew of Intrepid, a Navy Neptune bomber that crashed on Vancouver Island on November 4, 1948. The young mother was left with a missing body, no compensation and no cooperation from the very country Bud gave his life to defend. That cold November day, a forty-year battle was launched to discover the truth about the crash, to find the bodies of the missing crew—located 13 years later and unceremoniously buried at the site, and to have them interred in the highest place of honor, Arlington National Cemetery.
