Several guys, including me, had cameras and took pictures. Some even held up the VC heads like hunting trophies and had other guys take their picture. We all went back to camp and ate a hearty breakfast. Welcome to the Nam.

Abstract:
This book covers the life of the author for about two years from the time he was first selected by the draft in 1966-1967 during his junior year in college. It chronicles the following twenty-one months of his military life. Beginning with Basic Training and continuing through to his return to civilian life in 1969. In particular, this story covers his routine and not so routine days in 1968 Vietnam. These include his memories of being the “New Guy” Private without a clue to nine months later becoming the Sergeant in charge of his section. It also covers the remainder of his brief military career at Ft. Carson Colorado and his return to college life as a 24 year old veteran in 1969.

This short glimpse into the real life of a non-volunteer soldier in Viet Nam is a quick enjoyable read. You can just hear the author telling the short stories. All ages High School and up can gain an insight and perhaps a bit better understanding of those times and the soldiers involved. I say give it a read!

This book speaks in a lot of (military) cliches and is, at times, redundant. At the same time, this account of one soldier's experiences from basic training to the battlefield are worth a look. Wade moves the reader along quickly and does appear to know what he is talking about.

I can say with pride that I knew Ed. Not as well as I had wish i had. He taught at my high school were he worked till the day he died. This book was completed shortly before he died from exposure to agent orange. While yes he does ramble, both in the book and in life, he never used hyperbole. Everything in this book is the gospel truth. This book i not about the Vietnam war, it is about one man who was in the Vietnam war.
