From the ocean-going sailboat in Waikiki to the strip clubs of San Francisco, Sugar and her family didn't understand until her sickness overcame her. A true story.

Abstract:
SugarStory is about a young girl who lived aboard her ocean-going sailboat in Waikiki, grew up on the North Shore beaches of Oahu with her horse, and who worked in the strip clubs of San Francisco before she realized that she was sick. SugarStory is the story of Sugar who is the sweetness of sugarcane matured by a lazy sun in the red volcanic soil of Hawaii. Sugar was stigmatized by an illness that she would not surrender to. This is Sugar’s true but amazing story.

SugarStory broke my heart. She has traveled so far and yet she is so young. A great storyline, I can't wait for the movie. My mother, my cousin, the wife of my best friend have the illness. Sugar is my hero and a model for all those with mental illness. A real diary of a troubled young lady, but she is a survivor.

SugarStory is non-stop reading to learn if Sugar can survive her mental illness, her drug-dealing boyfriend, and the San Francisco strip scene.

Regardless of what Bush said I too enjoyed the book. Moments of darkness mixed with a breath of hope.
